El Quetzal, hermosa ave  de gran valor para los aztecas y mayas  con sus plumas esta formado en su mayoria el penacho de moctezuma y  en sus tiempos sus plumajes eran usados como moneda por el gran valor con el que se le consideraba.

The Quetzal, beautiful bird of great value to the Aztecs and Mayans with their feathers mostly consists in the plume of Montezuma and his times their feathers were used as currency by the great value that will be considered.

PENACHO DE MOCTEZUMA. Se le conoce así a un quetzalapanecáyotl o tocado de plumas de quetzal engarzadas en oro y piedras preciosas que actualmente se encuentra en el Museo de Etnología de Viena, en Austria, que según la tradición perteneció al tlatoani Moctezuma Xocoyotzin (1466-1520), hay una réplica en el Museo Nacional de Antropología de la Ciudad de México.

This is believed to be a quetzal-feathered headdress worn by Motecuhzoma Xocoyotzin (Moctezuma II). It is displayed in the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna, Austria.

El penacho de Moctezuma - 116cm de h. 175cm de diamètre. Un des 158 cadeaux faits aux conquistadors. Chez les aztèques (XIV au XVIe s.) , seul l'empereur porte la couleur turquoise. L'arrivée, en 1519, des conquistadors menés par Hernán Cortés scella la fin de leur règne.
