Although it's not in on the Riviera Maya, Palenque is truly one of the wonders of the world. Immersed in dense jungle high up in the hills this is a different type of ruin adventure. Climb the masses of steps to get the best views ~ Mexico.

I went here and enjoyed a realistic Mayan presentation of a ritual dance to the god of rain and it really rained.  In fact we had to leave because it was a torrential rainpouring on us.  This is Palenque, Chiapas
