This is a real fucking Devil Bird. It will be in your nightmares tonight. Walking towards you on its Devil Bird talons.

The shoebill stork has an impressive bill that resembles a Dutch wooden shoe. Although related to storks, the shoebill’s unusual bill and other characteristics place it in a family all its own. It is often compared to a statue, as the bird stands still for long periods of time in marshes, waiting for a fishy meal to surface. This “freeze-and-seize strategy ensures that the stork lands its prey. (photos: Anita Ross)

Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) -- such a singular bird. Looks like a cartoon character, sometimes like a flying dinosaur, and from this view, his bulk reminds me of Batman with his cape. I'm in awe that this creature exists and I'm only just now learning it. Height varies from 3.5 to 5 feet. Bill is about 12" long, 5" wide and resembles the Dutch wooden shoe -- thus the name Shoebill. by 42203050@N00, via Flickr

Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) A sharp hook at the end of the beak makes the shoebill an awesome killer, as well as it also counts Nile screen lungfish, serpents, reptiles as well as young crocodiles amongst its target.
