Art21 produces features focusing exclusively on contemporary visual art and artists throughout the world, including the Peabody Award-winning biennial series "Art in the Twenty-First Century." Intimate footage allows the viewer to observe the artists at work and watch their process as they transform inspiration into art.
Alfredo Jaar (Chilean) - This is Not America, 1987. His work consists primarily of installations in museums, galleries, and public spaces. It often questions the notion of geography and suggests that geographic boundaries are arbitrary divisions that serve to reinforce systems of power and exploitation. One of his better-known works seen here, is a sequence of projections on a light board overlooking a U.S. Army recruitment station in Times Square.
