To make these elegant Thank You cards Gelli Arts® artist Michelle Mixed Media cut cardstock masks and stencils with metal dies and a die-cutting machine. If you don't have dies, you could hand-cut botanical shapes. This project works in two ways: use the leaves as masks to create beautiful botanical monoprints on paper and cover both sides of each leaf with paint in the process. Monoprinting with natural objects such as flowers, leaves, seeds, and even rocks or twigs can be a fun and easy way to create stunning prints. Top tips from Gelli Arts® artist Tania Ahmed: if your paint is drying too fast use slow-drying acrylic paints or medium made for acrylic paints. You can use printmaking inks too. Try experimenting with the amount of paint you use. Keep in mind that heat or dryness can affect how fast your paint dries.

Waterreactive inks are less suitable because they bead up on the gel plate and won’t give as much detail. Be aware that some inks might stain the gel plate.
