Djenne Mixed Strand
Wonderful little strand of Islamic-era glass beads from the ancient capital of Mali, Djenne. These beads date to somewhere between 800 - 1200 AD. They are extremely photogenic, and in good (although not perfect) condition. As you can see from the close ups, several of the beads have lost some of their detail over the years. Mali Wedding Beads (Large - w/Bear Claws))
This is the only strand we have remaining of large Mali Wedding Beads mixed with considerable amounts of "bear claw" beads and African vinyl beads. The strand measures 25" long, with 4" of the strand composed of small (6 mm diameter) African vinyl discs. The drop beads measure 24.5 mm long x 15 mm in diameter. The "bear claw" beads and triangle beads measure 32.5 mm long x 19 mm wide, and 35 mm long x 29 mm wide, respectively.
