So this one is definitely a Chilean delight! Humitas!!! My favorite of all Chilean foods!!!

So this one is definitely a Chilean delight! My favorite of all Chilean foods!

Mote con Huesillo! Probably the most Chilean of all beverages (at least of those that LDS missionaries can drink...) I love this stuff! It is basically a dried peach in peach juice with wheat berries. So yummy! I once dressed up as Mote and my companion went as Huesillo to a costume party... fun times!

Mote con Huesillo - cooked dried peaches, cooked farro, and peach nectar.

Merkén! I love this hot Mapuche spice made from dried and smoke peppers! I wish I knew where to get my hands on some here in the states...

Okay, so this one is not so delightful, in fact Cochayuyo is probably my least favorite Chilean food... but I could not have a Chilean food board without it.

Cochayuyo (seaweed) dishes were my least favorite Chilean food. I had to wash each bite down with lots of jugo (juice)!

Pan de Pascua!!! The Chilean version of Christmas fruitcake! Word to the wise, check if the cake has rum in it BEFORE you buy it...

Sopaipillas! Always a great Chilean treat! I still can't decide if I love them with sweet manjar or a savory chancho en piedra.

Chancho en Piedra! So yummy topped onto a fresh, hot sopaipilla!!!

When Natalya and I were recently traveling through Chile, we found the two most popular condiments restaurants served with their starter bread were a roasted red pepper purée and and Chancho en Pie…

Completos! So I am not generally a hotdog person, but these things are incredible! Start with the tastiest hotdog bun known to man, add a good quality hotdog, then top it with avocado, tomatoes, and mayonnaise! I also love mine with a little sauerkraut!!!

Porotos granados! A really fresh, yummy chilean bean soup. My favorite was in the summer when we went out to the campo to help harvest a garden and then the family made us this with all their fresh veggies the next day for lunch. Yummy!

Cazuela! Yummy, a delightful soup with large chunks of meat and vegetables!

Cazuela de Ave- Chicken Stew from Chile super easy & yummy (recipe in Spanish)

Mebrillo! This fruit both looks and tastes like a cross between a lemon and an apple. I mean it, if lemons and apples were people and they got married and had a baby, that would be membrillo. The fruit I had was hard as a rock, but I also had it served up like applesauce (so yummy) or as a delicious sweet spread!
