Cúmulo NGC 133 (Cr 3; OCl 296). Es un pequeño cúmulo abierto en la constelación de Casiopea. Ubicado cerca de la estrella κ Cassiopeiae; consiste en un puñado de estrellas. Los límites no son fácilmente identificables: se ve como un ligero engrosamiento de asteres diminutos , dispuestos en forma de una Y invertida. Es parte de un grupo de cúmulos abiertos, incluyendo NGC 146 y el disperso Rey 14. Consta de unas veinte estrellas, entre ellas la estrella doble BD + 6293.

One of the more beautiful Milky Way photos I’ve seen. This one is taken over the two small towns of Gerlach and Empire, Nevada.

This all-sky image shows the distribution of carbon monoxide (CO), a molecule used by astronomers to trace molecular clouds across the sky, as seen by Planck. The inserts provide a zoomed-in view onto three individual regions on the sky where Planck has detected concentrations of molecular gas: Cepheus, Taurus and Pegasus, respectively.

There are 10 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy that are the same size as our sun. Therefore it should come as no surprise that astronomers have identified a clone to our sun lying only 200 light-years away.   Still, it is fascinating to imagine a yellow dwarf that is exactly the same mass, temperature and chemical composition as our nearest star.

Astronomers discover rare 'emerald-cut' galaxy - The astronomers – from Australia, Germany, Switzerland and Finland – discovered the rectangular shaped galaxy within a group of 250 galaxies some 70 million light years away.    “In the Universe around us, most galaxies exist in one of three forms: spheroidal, disc-like, or lumpy and irregular in appearance,” said Associate Professor Alister Graham from Swinburne University of Technology.
