To even out the Germanic influence, Leo allied w/ Zeno & his Isaurians, even marrying his daughter Ariadne to Zeno. Leo was the first emperor to legislate in Greek. He named Zeno’s son, Leo II, as his Caesar. Leo died of dysentery at the age of 73 in 474.
