"Pickering Castle Ruins".. North Yorkshire..The original structure was built by the Normans under William the Conqueror in 1069/70..It is one of only a handful of castles which were largely unaffected by the War-of-the-Roses and of the civil war of the 17th century..

Another of the castles administered by English Heritage, Pickering was a traditional motte-and-bailey style castle built by the Normans.
