Tom McGehee’s CURATOR’S CHOICE: A Cathedral Pickle Jar. The design of this 13 ½” tall bottle is reminiscent of a Gothic cathedral, hence its name. And with a 2” diameter mouth, it would easily have accommodated cucumber pickles. Cathedral pickle jars were first introduced around 1860 and were made in sizes ranging from 8” to 14” in height. This example is one of a pair on display within the Bottle Room in the Bellingrath Home.
