19th Century Large Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Rye Basket. It's large and deep with the most wonderful dark patina. It is likely of southeastern, Pennsylvania German origin. Rye baskets were a staple and had many home uses like holding household items, raising bread dough, holding fruit and vegetables. This one because of it's large size might also have been used to hold feathers that were used for their mattresses. Measures 15 inches wide and about 7-1/2 inches deep.
