When teaching our children ancient history, we are sure to include Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome. Unfortunately we sometimes omit another great ancient civilization on the other side of the globe-- Ancient China.
According to legend, the carp had to reach the source of the river that flows through China, the Huang Ho (Yellow River), the spawning season. For this, he had to swim upstream and jump waterfalls to mountain Jishinhan. The carp from reaching the top became a dragon.
