Reproduction of the skull of Livyathan melvillei, a cetacean that lived in the Miocene (13/12-Ma-ago). Based on the size of the skull, the length of the Livyathan was estimated at between 44-57'. The presence of a cavity for the spermaceti bag suggests that it looked like a sperm whale, but the teeth (14.5 x 4") are those of a top predator, a sort of giant killer whale.
