Set in Missouri, this story introduces Irish immigrant Maggie Malone and plantation mistress Libbie Blair, who come face to face after a battle. Libbie is searching for her brother, the organizer of the Confederate Wildwood Guard. Maggie, whose brothers are part of the Union Irish Brigade, is tending the wounded.
