My somber heart seeks you always. -Neruda
Pablo Neruda was a Chilean poet. He was born in 1904 and died 1973 at the age of 69.
Gabriel García Márquez once called him "the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language.
Pablo named his pen name after another poet, Jan Neruda. He did it so his father wouldn't find out he was writing poems.
Neruda's first published work was Entusiasmo y perseverancia at the age of 13.
After the fall of communism Neruda was forced in exile where he spent 3 years hiding. During this time he went to Europe where he made a surprise appearance at World Congress of Peace Forces.
Neruda served as senator for the Chilean Communist party. After communism was outlawed, he had a warrant for his arrest, though he escaped.
In 1971 Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
