A backyard garden designed for outdoor living
When Matt Cantwell first saw this rear garden in Sydney's north, it was overgrown and dated. Pebblecrete stepping stones led through a "1970s-era native rainforest" and there was little connection to the house. Once the pebblecrete was removed, this Sydney garden could be rezoned for outdoor living.

Tricolor Ginger (stromanthe sanguinea): With its distinctive, colorful foliage, the multihued tricolor ginger plant doesn't need flowers to call attention to itself. Native to Brazilian rainforests, the variegated tricolor ginger (Stromanthe sanguinea) is also called triostar for its trio of leaf colors. Tricolor ginger can be grown indoors and out in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 8b through 10. \
